FAO James.

James are you privy to the results of the speed survey that took place for a number of weeks using sensor strips placed on Rochdale Rd just below the Half Way House ?

Hi Tony, sorry only just seen this. I remember there being issues with the initial survey, and the results would be fed back to me when they had been compiled. I'll dig through my emails later but don't think I've had anything yet. Will get back to you.

Re: FAO James.

Is it not the case James were the wires are laid for a period of time to access average speeds then if needed a community speed van attends for a few occasions until people realise and slow down unfortunately most speeds are the boy racers at night,

There is the odd case of a neighbours daughter overtaking a learner driver taking lessons and in doing so to pass safely but quickly exceeded the set limit going uphill by just enough to get a ticket its not the fine its the points that are unfair,

If constant offenders paid enough in fines they would slow down,

Re: FAO James.

They have average speed check cameras in Blackley  for 30mph
I'd love the same between the summit and the junction

Re: FAO James.

It just needs a bit of common sense SG but todays young drivers in high performance cars have something to prove to each other and how they afford the insurance premiums is beyond me,

I spoke to a lad in Asda last year in a two seater Mazda type coupe an immaculate car Insurance at 22 years old with a clean licence around £150 month on direct debit.

After passing a test they should be limited to a certain CC level for a probationary period until they gain road craft,
The antics of young drivers these days are pushing everybody's premiums up,

Re: FAO James.

I think speeds will get faster once the electric car revolution kicks in.
They can be made super fast, super powerful without suffering dreadful MPG off a traditional muscle car

Check this out

So I'd like to see average speed check cams

Don't forget that they'll be self driving though, so you won't need any speed cameras!!  wink

I've been waiting for the results of this and a couple of other speed surveys. Just checked my emails, I'll chase it first thing tomorrow.

Why not have a 20 mph speed limit in the whole of Royton.  Then we might see cars driving at 30mph  around the village .

There is a 20mph limit around St Cuthberts school morning and late afternoon and I've yet to see a car doing less than 30mph, It's just ignored!!

Re: FAO James.

Heres a question from the Chace, what distance denotes Fog on a motorway, a, 50 metres, b,500 metres or c, 1000 metres.

The answer is c, thats why speed limits are ignored, slow down fog ahead or congestion and you dont because you cant see it, same with the 20 mph on an empty road at St Cuthberts with no children on the pavement, i do stick to 30mph  though  whatever the conditions and the 50mph restrictions on motorways, the speed warning on High Barn operates when the schools closed as some idiot has allowed residents parking and its double parked both sides so its stationary.  Shaw Road is the same but no speed awareness sign, the danger is not the children but the parking so its inconsistant, drive as conditions allow, smart thinking.

Re: FAO James.

Smart thinking where speed limits are mandatory not advisery, they have cameras and can monitor traffic flow, they can see problems 100's of miles away not just the next junction or when an accident occurs, they close motorways and divert traffic anywhere to avoid the area, thats not smart.

This topic and question was raised on the 21st September 2017 its now 27th January 2018 and still no answer, we know it was acknowleged within 4 days so its passed into history now,  if your satisfied to see the sensor strips in place and expect those to send out a message, why print the highway code, and if  the survey wasn't real its not enough is it, the real message is nothing is being done as its too random or cant be enforced, the loop is still wide open if no solution is found.

Points on a licence which bans careless drivers is good, one more point and your life is in ruins why give them extra chances to offend, it wasnt a mistake but a deliberate act,  they know what their doing,  fines dont work if you can pay them,  £200 for using a phone and 6 points on a licence whats worse losing your car and your job and your freedom to travel or sponging off your family and friends to get bye, treat it as a joke, happens to everyone, what a laugh, live for today why worry, whats the problem, yak yak yak  rules are not for them stupid to think otherwise.

To add to the confusion, the law says you should use your fog lights if, and only if, visibility is less than 100m.

All 'residential' side streets should be 20 mph.  No reason to go any faster.

Alongside that, far more could be 1 way, or even blocked halfway down - too many estates/b roads are used as arterial through roads by commuters and goods vehicles.  This is antisocial - and also bad for cars ( too much starting, stopping, turning, braking etc)  Stick to the A roads wherever possible.
